When should I use hearing protection?
You should always use hearing protection when engaging in high-noise recreational activities or work. These activities may include hunting, music concerts, motor sports, and/or construction. Noise-induced hearing loss can result from prolonged exposure to noise or a single, extremely loud event. The louder the sound, the quicker it can cause damage. If you notice ringing in your ears or temporary hearing loss after a loud noise exposure, the environment was too noisy and could be harmful. If that ringing or temporary hearing loss is persistent, it would be a good idea to contact us for a hearing evaluation.
Should I get my hearing tested?
If you suspect that you or a loved one may be experiencing hearing loss, it’s recommended that you seek help sooner rather than later. Hearing loss tends to develop gradually and is often noticeable to close friends and family well before the affected individual realizes it. Identifying and treating hearing loss promptly is crucial. Ignoring it could lead to significant long-term effects, such as increased risk of depression and dementia.

Holly was rude, unkind, and extremely cold throughout my experience. She was the least helpful person I encountered during my hearing aid journey. Rather than offering guidance or clear information, she was not forthcoming at all and made no effort to help me understand my options. Most concerning, she outright stated that a certain device could not be made at all, which was later proven to be incorrect. This misinformation directly impacted my care and was both frustrating and disappointing. I did not expect special treatment, but I did expect basic professionalism, accuracy, and a willingness to help. Unfortunately, Holly provided none of these. Audionova needs to do better with people they hire if they want to sell products. if I could give negative 10 stars, I would do it.

This location is truly customer-focused and professional. When my hearing aid charger was damaged, they lent me an extra until another could be ordered. Even though it’s a bit of a drive for me to get there, I look forward to being under continued care at this location. Kudos to Holly and Jeff!

My experience with AudioNova at 8200 Renaissance Pkwy. has been a pleasure to find a company that still holds service, courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at the front of their reason of being there. After years of having everyone in my world repeat themselves, I gave in to my Scotch Irish thrift and made an appointment. Holly Manchu was the audiologist who saw me. She, with the patience of Job, tested both ears and answered all my questions. I chose the model that had the features I wanted. I stayed away from the model that had too many bells and whistles. Holly was very understanding and within minutes had them programed and inserted into my ears. Wow, what a world of difference to hear and understand someone the first time. I have been going back once a month so they could clean and adjust them as needed. I feel so comfortable going there. Like going to a close friends. Everyone at AudioNova is so pleasant to deal with. They deserve more than 5 Stares. Anyone and everyone needing help with hearing would do well going to see these great people. They are 5 cuts above the national box stores.

I took my 91 year old father into the store just hoping they could help me out with my dads hearing aids. I didn’t have an appointment but I was tired of my dad not being able to hear good WITH his hearing aids on. Jeffrey greeted us at the front desk and after I told him the situation he asked to see my dad’s hearing aids. He then proceeded to check, clean and replace the filters while we stood there and watched him. He also took the time to explain what he was doing so that I could do the same task for my dad in the future when his hearing aids got clogged up again with ear goop. Such a nice guy. Such excellent service. I will bring my dad back there again for follow up hearing tests and services. Kudos to a job well done.

The technician set the sound at a more tolerable level for me which is a blessing. However, she did not solve the main problem. After charging my hearing aids, I have to turn off my iPhone and log back on before the Starkey app works. The technician was able to do this in the office, I think, because she had the help of her computer. But it simply does not work for me here at home. It's very frustrating to have to turn off my phone in the middle of doing other things, then wait for the phone to boot up again, then connect with the Starkey app. Time consuming too.

I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Clarke. After suffering from tinnitus for a few weeks I was at a breaking point and was unable to get into an audiologist at UNC or Duke for a few weeks. Dr. Clarke gave up her lunch break to work me in despite a full schedule. She gave me a free hearing test and was able to provide some helpful recommendations on next steps in finding a solution. Very thankful for her and highly recommend her!

When I go in for a scheduled appointment, matters are handled efficiently and in a timely manner. Dr. Clarke has been very helpful in stepping me through the process of choosing which hearing aid was best for my particular situation. This involved listening to my needs, evaluating my lifestyle and reviewing my hearing test results. Once we narrowed down the type of hearing aid that would best fit me, she allowed me to try different brands and styles until we settled on the one that I will be wearing. I never felt rushed or pressured. All questions and concerns were addressed promptly. Jeff (office manager) has also been very helpful and responsive.

I have recently become a patient of Dr. Jennifer Clarke at Audiology of Southpoint. I first visited her during a promotional event when she was offering free hearing tests. The experience was so positive that I decided to switch to her practice from UNC Hearing and Voice, where I'd been a patient for years. Jennifer and Jeff (her receptionist) have created a fantastic atmosphere in their small, immaculately clean & very well-equipped office. Both are very friendly and welcoming, and it's always easy to get in for an appointment. I've never waited even as much as 5 minutes to be seen once I arrive at the office (& parking is easy!) Jennifer is an excellent listener & is great at maintaining eye contact during a conversation. She asks appropriate questions and is well versed in her field. She is open to any and all questions from her patients and is relaxed and approachable in her demeanor. She helped me select and fitted me with my first hearing aids, and I have been very pleased with their performance. She makes you feel like you're in "good hands", and that your satisfaction is her first priority. I cannot recommend Dr. Jennifer Clarke more highly. You will not regret making an appointment to meet her!

I recently purchased new hearing aids that do not require batteries. Jennifer was incredibly honest in telling me that I did have about another year of use on my battery aids. She listened to my reasoning about wanting to make the switch. There was never any pressure on her part. She made the entire process so easy. Jennifer is an extremely qualified audiologist and a delight to see every three months. She never makes me feel rushed and answers all my questions calmly and clearly. If you are looking for a five star audiologist, call Jennifer. Also, shoutout to Jeff who runs the office so well.

I couldn't be happier with Audiology of Southpoint. Dr. Clark is so patient and kind and helpful. She managed to fit me in when I had an issue with my hearing aids and even after fixing it, she took the time to show me some additional features of the hearing aid (purchased elsewhere due to insurance restraints) that I had been missing out on. Excellent care, very attentive, and very efficient. Long time office assistant Jeff is friendly and efficient. And Dr. Jennifer Clark, the audiologist, is very thorough and explains everything very well. She fitted me with hearing aids that have embedded mikes and work like Bluetooth ear earbuds. They've held up well, even after I accidentally went swimming with them! She cleans and checks them every 6 months at no additional charge. And I'm in and out of there very quickly. I highly recommend this office for anyone needing hearing evaluation or hearing aids!

I am so delighted to have found Audiology of Southpoint! Jennifer has gone so far beyond what most providers would do to ensure my unusual monoaural hearing loss is addressed, and Geoff is the most amazing front-office presence they could ask for. As a professional musician, I have a lot of very specific input to offer regarding sound, and have needed a lot of support as I adjust to this new hearing experience. Geoff always works hard to find time in the schedule for me, and Jennifer is never impatient and always available, even responding via email outside of usual office times. While I encourage people to investigate the Phonak Lyric, which is what took me to Southpoint originally, I'll be continuing there no matter what my future may hold!

My hearing has been badly affected by a long lifetime of working in noisy environments from jets to computer rooms to gunfire to performing in bands. I could no longer really distinguish spoken words especially in noisy situations, or even hear music as music. Over the years I've had my hearing tested and knew just how really bad it was becoming. I also had negative impressions of all the places I had visited checking out what was available for hearing aids. Too many of them were more like visiting a cell phone store. High pressure selling of one size fits all devices from people who couldn't or wouldn't answer technical questions. I even tried inexpensive hearing amplifiers from online sources. I had received a few mailers from Audiology of Southpoint and decided to at least check them out to keep my wife happy. What a difference! It's a small friendly place with just one receptionist (Jeff) and one audiologist (Dr. Jennifer Clarke). Dr. Clarke began the visit with an in depth interview to understand how I perceived my hearing loss as well as my history of working in very noisy environments. She then performed an in depth set of tests to measure specific frequency losses as well as analyzing my comprehension of speech under different types of noisy conditions. When finished with the testing she had a detailed set of information on her computer that she then went over with me describing how my hearing had deteriorated. She was happy to discuss all this in as technical terms as I wanted to and it was also obvious that she was one of those rare people who can discuss this type of information in a manner comfortable to whomever she is talking to. She will neither pressure you nor "baffle you with science". Only then did we begin discussing actual hearing aids, the available technology and what could and could not be improved in my hearing. Her recommendations were to try two different types of hearing aids. The first were deep in ear analog types that I would keep in my ears 24 hours a day, were invisible to anyone else. I could even shower with them in. The second were a digital set of over the ear hearing aids that you put on a charger at night. I left the office that day wearing the in-ear type for a week's test. Dr. Clarke said that most people fell into one of two categories here; those who really loved them and those who really hated them. Unfortunately I fell into the "really hated them" category and went back three days later to switch to the digital over the ear option. I quickly adapted to this option and after a week's test I made the decision to purchase them. I've fully adapted and forget that I'm even wearing them. I can finally understand speech again, hear music as music and do so under different conditions. My wife is even happier than me that I finally got good hearing aids. The most important part of the whole process for me was how well I have been treated and continue to be treated by Dr. Clarke and everyone else at Audiology of Southpoint. Visiting a real audiologist is like visiting any other doctor whether a physician, dentist or eye doctor. Regular checkups, return visits, adjustments are all part of the experience. If you have hearing issues I highly recommend Dr. Clarke and Audiology of Southpoint. You'll be glad you did.

She gave me a hearing test, serviced my hearing aids and even cleaned wax out of my ear canals while I was there to ensure that my aids worked properly for me. My husband and I recently attended Audiology of Southpoint for a hearing evaluation and assessment of an old set of hearing aids he owned. The appointment far exceeded our expectations. Phoning for an appointment, was quick and efficient. The location is easily accessed and lots of parking. The reception staff, Jeff ,is friendly, helpful, and informs the patient of all options and available opportunities to seek treatment at this facility. The physician, Jennifer Clarke, is extremely professional and welcoming to her patients and their spouse. We were immediately put to ease and allowed to express our reason for appointment, medical concerns, and financial circumstances that applied to our case..After evaluation, we were given very understandable explanations and affordable options for treatment. The office and exam rooms are spacious and clean.(everyone wore mask)..the tests were quick, painless,and the consultation is clear and precise. A follow up appointment was scheduled in a reasonable time frame for my husband to experience the hearing aids at their programed settings ...and then return for any necessary changes that might need to be made for his comfort..We were repeatedly invited to reach out to the staff for a sooner appointment with concerns or to phone if we had questions. First off, I wish I had ten arms so I could give them ten thumbs ups. What an easy, pleasant experience! Sarah was amazing and went out of her way to make sure that everything was perfect with my hearing aides. It is amazing the things I was missing in every day conversations, but now I hear clearly and don't have to have people repeat themselves over and over. My wife is elated, my co workers are happy, and my quality of life has been greatly improved. Quit making excuses and go to Audiology of Southpoint already!
