Virtual Physician Symposium - Cognition 2.0: Brain & Ears are Equal Partners

On March 21, 2024, the sixth Webinar was organized by Sonova Audiological Care with the topic Cognition 2.0 – Brain and ears are equal partners.

Currently, 65% of people over the age of 60 suffer from hearing loss¹. About 10% of people over the age of 65 suffer from dementia². Hearing loss has been identified as the largest modifiable risk factor for dementia, contributing 8% to the overall risk of developing age-related dementia³.

Moderator Dr. Johanna Bailey-Stark, Vice-President Audiology & Medicalization at Sonova, welcomed the renowned experts:

  • Prof. Graham Naylor, Professor of Hearing Sciences, School of Medicine, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom
  • Prof. Victoria Sanchez, Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery within the Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida, United States of America
  • Prof. Louise Hickson, Executive Dean, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, The University of Queensland, Australia

The program began by discussing the short-term benefits of hearing intervention on cognition. The latest research results are discussed in more detail, with an emphasis on the ACHIEVE study. The program ends with a presentation on the benefits of hearing intervention for overall well-being. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion, during which questions could be asked to the experts.
