👂 BTE — Behind-the-Ear
The whole device sits behind your ear and sends sound through a tube into a custom earmould. Robust and powerful.
Cleaning
Daily cleaning keeps your BTE hearing aids working clearly and comfortably. Clean them each evening after you take them out.
- Wipe the body. Use a soft, dry cloth or the supplied cleaning tissue to wipe the casing. Never use water, alcohol, or solvents.
- Clear the microphone ports. Gently brush across the mic openings with the soft cleaning brush. Hold the aid so debris falls away from the opening.
- Clean the dome & receiver. Wipe the dome and brush around the receiver opening. Use the wax pick to clear the sound outlet if blocked.
- Check the wax filter. Look at the wax guard — if it's full or discoloured, replace it (see "Domes & Filters").
- Store safely. Leave the aids open to air overnight, or place them in your charger/drying kit.
Tip: A weekly deeper clean with a drying capsule or electronic dryer helps remove moisture and extends the life of your devices.
Charging
Most current AudioNova BTE models are rechargeable. A full charge typically gives a full day of hearing.
- Place in the charger. Seat each hearing aid in its slot — they're magnetic and will settle into place. Indicator lights confirm contact.
- Watch the lights. A pulsing light means charging; a steady light means fully charged. A full charge usually takes about 3 hours.
- Use the case on the go. A charged portable case tops the aids up without a wall outlet — handy when travelling.
- Power down when stored. Leaving the aids in the charger powers them off automatically, saving battery for the next day.
Note: If an aid won't charge, make sure the charging contacts are clean and dry, and that the charger is connected to power. See "Troubleshooting".
Domes & Filters
Domes and wax filters are the parts that sit in or near your ear canal. Replacing them regularly keeps sound clear and hygiene high.
Changing a dome
- Remove the old dome. Hold the receiver where the wire meets it and pull the dome straight off.
- Choose the right dome. Match the size and style your audiologist fitted (open, closed, or power).
- Push on the new dome. Press it firmly onto the receiver until it clicks. Tug gently to confirm it's secure.
Changing the wax filter
- Use the filter tool. Remove the old filter with one end of the tool.
- Insert a new filter. Press the fresh filter into the receiver opening with the other end.
How often: Domes every 2–3 months; wax filters every 4–6 weeks or when sound is weak.
